The folk world lost an icon on Sunday, June 11th as Rosalie Sorrels passed away at the age of 83. A Grammy-nominated singer whose career spanned decades, she was an independent spirit who left her husband in the mid '60's to go on the road with her five children and begin her music career. She performed at folk venues across the country including the Newport Folk Festival.
NPR's All Songs TV just premiered The Cactus Blossoms' brand new video for "Mississippi!" On the heals of their performance of the song on Twin Peaks, the video was shot in their home state of Minnesota and sets an eerie scene as the protagonist jumps into the, cold dark waters of the Mississippi.
Actual Wolf, aka Eric Pollard, has released his Red House debut, Faded Days. It's a mix of '70s era Neil Young, mixed with Springsteen and The War on Drugs. We've definitely stretched our boundaries on "folk" music, but this one is well worth it.

Our hearts are heavy as we learned of the passing of Jimmy LaFave. He was one of the torch bearers of Woody Guthrie's music, a masterful interpreter of Dylan, a songwriter and singer who could just as easily get the crowd rockin' as he could silence them with his soulful crooning. There are few people in the world like Jimmy and if you were fortunate enought to meet him, you felt that all was right with the world. He inspired countless musicians and songwriters and has played alongside many of them.
