Paul Geremia
Paul Geremia has built a reputation as a first rate bluesman, songwriter, "scholar" of early jazz and blues, and one of the best country blues fingerpickers ever with his six and twelve-string guitars, harmonica, piano and husky soulful voice. Along with his innate sense of the humour as well as the drama of the music, he keeps traditional blues fresh and alive with his performances.
He spent the last 40 years criss-crossing the United States keeping traditional blues fresh and alive spreading his gospel in every hole-in-the-wall club, coffeehouse, and listening room that will have him. His career has earned accolades and Paul can be considered a bluesman in every sense of the word
Growing up in a family that moved around the country, Paul was engrained with a restless spirit at an early age. In the sixties, he started college to study agriculture, only to drop out and pursue music a life of music. He found gigs in coffee houses in cities and at college campuses and made occasional forays South and West in search of the music he loved and what gigs he could find.
Paul is a scholar of early jazz and blues history and considered one of the finest country-blues fingerpickers around. He has opened for legends like Howlin’ Wolf, Skip James, Son House and Pink Anderson.
Geremia has recorded ten solo albums including 5 on Red House; Gamblin’ Woman Blues (1993), Self Portrait in Blues (1995), Live From Uncle Sam’s Backyard (1997), The Devil’s Music (1999) and Love, Murder, & Mosquitos (2004). Each one showcases an artist in full command of his craft. Combining influences from Pink Anderson, Charlie Patton, Big Bill Broonzy, and Blind Lemon Jefferson to his own songwriting, Paul has created a style all his own.
