Danny Carnahan
and
Robin Petrie
Danny Carnahan and Robin Petrie have combined traditional sounds from America, Britain, and the Middle East with contemporary rock influences. Purveying a marvelous brand of folk-rock dubbed "post traditional," the pair has attracted increasing attention for their innovative musicianship and superior songwriting.
Their 1995 Red House release, Cut and Run combines the duos stirring vocals and alluring harmonies. Carnahan wrote ten of the outstanding originals and collaborated with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter on an eleventh. He also delivers some exceptional guitar and octave mandolin work. A truly evocative singer, Robin Petrie is capable of weaving an instrumental spell of her own with a cascading hammered dulcimer that sinews its way through the album's rich mix of guitars, bass and drums.
Enriching this recording with stellar performances are Richard Thompson, Martin Simpson, Laurie Lewis, and Sulyman Feldthouse.
